The Portage Education Foundation is pleased to announce the award of $13,000 in scholarships for 2012 graduating seniors. The nine scholarships range from $500 to $4,000.
This $4,000 scholarship was established in memory of this Northern High School alumnus, Class of 2006.

Honoring the memory of the former Portage Northern principal, this $2,500 scholarship was established by the family of Chuck Evans for a graduating Northern High School senior who plans to major in education and become a teacher.

This $2,500 scholarship was established this year in her memory by her husband Ted Vliek, Sr., and their family. She retired from Portage Schools in 1986 from a career as a Special Education teacher’s aide.
The scholarship is for a graduating senior of Portage Central or Portage Northern intending to pursue a degree in elementary education, with a preference toward Special Education.

This $1,000 scholarship honors the memory of this 2008 Central High School alum, established by her family for a Central High senior planning to study musical theatre or theatre.

This $500 scholarship was created in honor of the Board of Education service of Dr. Kevin Hollenbeck, and is for a senior who plans to pursue a career in Education, Public Policy, or a related field such as public administration.

This $500 scholarship was established in memory of the long-time staff member of Information & Technology Systems at Portage Public Schools.
The scholarship is for a graduating senior from Portage Central or Portage Northern who participated in the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency’s Education-for-Employment program, with plans to pursue a technology-related field of study.
This will be the fourth year of this scholarship: Previous recipients were Kelsey Linn, Clayton MacRitchie, and Mitchell Woolley.
The scholarship is awarded through the Kalamazoo RESA Education-for-Employment Outstanding Senior Awards Program, initiated by an EFE teacher nomination.
